Tottenham are weighing up a surprise move for Andy Carroll after Dele Alli limped off against Fulham on Sunday to add to Mauricio Pochettino’s problems in attack.

The Spurs boss is already without star man Harry Kane until March because of an ankle ligament problem, while Son Heung-min is away at the Asian Cup.

And with Fernando Llorente struggling to make an impact during Sunday’s win at Craven Cottage, Pochettino has turned his attention to West Ham striker Carroll.

CARROLL THIS SEASON

Appearances: 10

Goals: 1

Yellow cards: 2

According to The Sun, the former Newcastle forward, who has had to contend with a number of serious injuries himself, could make a shock switch to Tottenham for just £2million before the January transfer window closes.

Carroll’s contract at the London Stadium is up at the end of the season and he has not managed to nail down a starting spot under Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers boss could yet choose to keep Carroll if Marko Arnautovic’s move to China is revived in the next 10 days, but he could also be allowed to move on.

Pochettino is desperate for cover up-front after Alli, who scored Spurs’ equaliser against Fulham, appeared to suffer a hamstring injury late in the game.

The Argentine has admitted that Alli’s injury ‘doesn’t look good’ ahead of this week’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea, although it is not yet known how long he will be out for.

Kane will not start training until the start of March, while Son could miss up to five games while he represents South Korea in the United Arab Emirates.

Spurs are also keen on Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, but a price-tag of over £40m means he is likely to remain at the Vitality Stadium beyond January.
