The Belgian winger was officially presented as a Real player on Thursday night and he reflected on a meeting with club president Florentino Perez where talk of a move from London to Madrid was raised.
‘After the World Cup there was contact but I stayed at Chelsea for another season,’ the club’s £150million signing said.
Eden Hazard has said that talk of a £150m move to Real Madrid began more than a year ago
Speaking for the first time as a Madrid player, Hazard revealed a meeting with Florentino Perez
‘I think it was a good decision. We won the Europa League, it was a good campaign personally, and I just think it was the right time to join Real Madrid.’
It transpires that the pair came face-to-face in London last year with lots of suggestions it was at FIFA’s The Best awards.
Perez has been a long-term admirer of Hazard and laid the foundations of a move then, before being able to show off the club’s new signing on Thursday.
‘He joked that it would be a good time to move to Madrid,’ Hazard said in his first press conference as a Real Madrid player.

‘I thought it was very nice to hear things like that from the president of Real Madrid.’
Hazard has linked up with former Chelsea team-mate Thibaut Courtois and is set to become the figurehead of Madrid’s attack under Zinedine Zidane next season.
The Belgian has agreed a five-year contract worth a reported £400,000-a-week and he will wear the No 7 jersey.
Perez was naturally delighted to secure the services of a player the club have been chasing for some time.
The president said on Thursday: ‘You are where you wanted to be – this was one of your dreams. Now one of your dreams has come true.
‘This will be your home and you will feel and experience great passion. From day one you will realise the most important thing here is the fans, those who love Real Madrid.
‘To play for this club was your biggest dream and thanks to your hard work and talent you have joined Real. The fans will be behind you in every game. The fans know you are unique and your brand of football is special.’
